Mandatory helath insurance being compared to mandatory auto insurance?

Compare Auto Insurance
Slick asked:

The argument for the auto is that it is a luxury and one doesn’t have to drive if they choose not. What can be said about health insurance? Is it now a luxury to breath? Exist? Take up space?

No matter how they sell it it is a tax. I don’t pay now but soon will be forced to. Period

The reason auto insurance is mandatory in many states(it isn’t in mine) is because people get into accidents with other people and do not have coverage. It isn’t about the lack of coverage for their own damages.

This is a debating point, not a question. Your objection to mandatory health insurance is noted.

Owning a vehicle is not a luxury. Public transportation is woeful at best. If you want to be an employed, productive human you must have a vehicle. Same with health. It is necessary if you want to be a productive, live life to the fullest type of human. This being said. Mandatory insurance of any type is legalized racketeering. Plain and simple. I am disgusted with the prospect. To fine someone due to lack of health insurance is horrible.

That is right. You’re born with a national debt already and now as soon as you turn 18 they want you to pay for old people’s health care too.

It’s not that the auto is a luxury, the mandatory insurance for the auto is a humongous money maker-most $$ of which we never see go anywhere, it just disappears from our wallets. The same will happen w/mandatory health insurance + the fines imposed by the gov. Keep in mind this panel is comprised of 3 republicans + 3 democrats who want this { no 3rd party involvement allowed of course } and they will get it in some form or another. They are slamming this through so fast it’s like the Bush bailout for banks or his GM loan from Dec 29th for 4 billion$$$. The current system relies on fancy speech writers who say what they think we want to hear + then they go about doing whatever they really want anyway. This current administraton is nothing but a puppet to the old. I am really starting to think it’s all 1 party-sure they squabble a bit but in the end we all get screwed while they live the good life laughing at the ignorance of the masses.
